Doctoral Dissertation Grant

The doctoral dissertation grant is a working grant for researchers working on their doctoral dissertation. The amount of tax-free grant corresponds with the so-called artist grant, which amounts to 2 080 € per month (in year 2023), including the statutory pension insurance premium payment when the grant period lasts for a minimum of 4 months. If the grant does not fall under pension insurance coverage, the monthly amount is 1 800 €. The grant is awarded for a maximum period of 12 months. The recipient must be free from other employment and able to concentrate on research.
